I’ve owned a 2007 Jetta (Wolfsburg edition) from around 2018 to today (2025). It’s name is Hugo! It’s been a great car, but it was getting older and we decided to buy a new plug-in hybrid.
Since May 2022, I’ve kept a gas log for Hugo by filing prices, mileage, locations, oil changes, etc. Here are some of the stats over my ownership of Hugo (from 2022–2025). Note, I didn’t drive it from Sep. 2022 to June 2023; I mostly walked or biked to work, and Eron and I could take the Miata when we needed to drive..

In the below graphs, notice the peak around July 2024: we went on a short road trip from Cleveland to CT and back (where we stayed with Sven and were thrown a baby shower by my family)!
My gas efficiency got better in June/July… Well, that was also when I got a tune up and oil changed (thanks, dad!).
Prices for gas were really high in 2022 and then again in may 2024… Maybe Russia’s invasion of Ukrain in 2022, and then… summer prices for 2024?
